"BEEEAAAAAAANNN!"

- Mrs. Julia Wicket, whenever Mr. Bean does something bad.

Julia Wicket (also known as Mrs. Wicket, Mrs. Julia Wicket, or simply Wicket), is a main character who is also an antagonist of the Animated Series, especially in the early seasons. She is Mr. Bean's landlady.

She owns an evil one-eyed cat, Scrapper, whom Bean gave away when he was young. She cares for Scrapper very much and gets very angry if she sees Bean (or anyone else) attacking him or being bad towards him.

Personality

Mrs. Wicket is a grumpy, hot-headed, and an aggressive old woman. She strongly despises Mr. Bean because he ruined her wedding when he was a kid, but nevertheless allows him to stay at the upstairs apartment she owns. If angered enough however, she will even evict him from the apartment, as seen in Homeless, Dead Cat, and The Fly, the first of which is the main plot point of that episode; she has the right to do so as she’s the landlady.

However, Bean is always allowed to move back to his apartment by the next episode. She can be bossy towards Bean and sometimes makes Bean as a slave (as seen in "A Royal Makeover") and a messenger (as seen in "Super Trolley"). Though she hates Bean for ruining her wedding, she loves her pet cat Scrapper dearly, and is highly protective of him.

In the newer seasons she has visibly calmed down and is less aggressive to Mr. Bean but would still be mad on him if he does something crazy. There are times where Wicket can be nice towards Bean, even making a birthday party for him, helping him fight with one of wrestlers - Bruise Force, after he was accidentally misunderstood as an actual wrestler when he, Mrs. Wicket, and her friend, Miss Wince went to a wresting show, offering him a pie after she saw Bean in bad state in the episode "All You Can Eat", admiring Bean's contributions in the episode "Superhero Bean" in which he decided to be a superhero for a day, catch a thief and get people's personal items such as wallets, photos and money back.

Appearance

Julia Wicket is a British elderly woman with light skin, short, blue-grey hair, which she always has tied into a bun. She also has small ears and a large nose with a mole on the left side. Due to being elderly, she also has wrinkles that can be seen on her cheeks and chin.

Most often Mrs. Julia Wicket is shown to be wearing a long, purple dress with a slightly lighter lace and an underlace or fluff that is the same colour as the upperlace. Due to the fact she has rather bad vision, she is always seen wearing her trademark glasses, that make her look even more evil, as they are shaped like thick eyebrows. She is also wearing black, possibly high heeled shoes, just like the majority of female characters. She is almost always seen using her wooden cane.

Appearances

Mrs. Wicket's first ever debut was in Season 1 episode called "Bean's Bounty". Besides that, she was also mentioned in a book called "Mr. Bean's Diary" about life of Mr. Bean (from the classic TV series) from 1992 (the book represents a "Highbury District Council" diary for 1993). Despite that, she is only mentioned once in that book and doesn't have any direct interaction with Mr. Bean.

As Julia Wicket is a main character, she has appeared in many, various episodes and has appeared in all seasons of the Animated Series, with an only exception being her absence in the Special Episode - "Diamonds Are a Bean's Best Friend", happening somewhere between Season 4 and Season 5 (2018).

Even if Mrs. Wicket is absent in a particular episode, she is always present in the intro of the series, that has been similar throughout all the seasons.

Trivia

  • A running gag of hers involve slamming doors open or shut, causing a nearby flower pot or picture frame to fall and break.
  • Her surname is a pun on the word "wicked", which fits her personality.
  • When walking, she is almost always seen with her cane.
  • Her voice is notably less gruff and masculine in later seasons, often more composed in tone, likely fitting with her kinder personality.
  • It is unknown if she collects rent payment from Bean, as she is never seen doing so in the series.
    • It is possible that he is staying for free, but only if he does what she says (such as mowing the lawn or renovating the house).
    • It's also possible that she collects rent from Bean offscreen.
  • Technically, Mrs. Wicket first appeared at the end of the opening sequence at the beginning of every episode starting with "In The Wild", but she would not make a proper debut in the series until "Bean's Bounty" episode.
