Synopsis[]
Mr. Bean buys a piano to learn how to play it. He is given a self playing keyboard by a piano teacher.
Plot[]
The episode starts with Mr. Bean playing Beethoven's 5th Symphony, and Wicket downstairs dances to it. The screen zooms out, revealing that Bean is only pretending to play the piano on the empty table, and Beethoven's symphony is just played on the record player. Unfortunately, the record skips, annoying Bean and Wicket and forcing Bean to stop playing it.
Bean goes to a music store named Goodall's Music. Inside, Bean find a record for Beethoven's 5th Symphony so he gets one. A store employee suggests a small piano for an old man but he doesn't like the sound it makes when he plays the small piano. The employee wants the old man to use the piano properly so he presses the record button as the old man plays a song. While the old man is playing, Bean shakes the maracas, annoying them. The employee presses another button and the old man's previous play is being replayed. The small piano is £50 and Bean plays with a xylophone, annoying the old man and making him stop the replay. The employee, annoyed, snatches the xylophone from Bean. Bean, annoyed with the employee, decides to get revenge by playing the drums, annoying the two of them even further. The old man has had enough and starts to become enraged, but the employee shows him a grand piano. The old man likes the grand piano and plays Beethoven's symphony, fascinating Bean. The old man wants to buy the grand piano, so he writes a check. Bean plays the piano and the employee tells him that it's sold. So Bean gets an idea; the piano becomes out of tune. The employee becomes enraged when Bean is trying to make the man cancel the order. When the pianist does hear that it's out of tune, he becomes enraged and he tears his check, thereby canceling the order and returns to the small piano, enraging the employee even more. Bean brings out several £20 bills, so the employee approaches him. Bean stops the employee from getting the money and removes a few bills. Bean stops the employee yet again and asks him the price of the book, to which the employee says it's free. Bean stops the employee for the third time and asks him about the candles to which the employee snatches away the candles, making Bean keep his money. So the employee puts back the candle and Bean pays him. While the employee counts Bean's payment, the other man shows him his check, showing that he wants to buy the small piano. He is happy that both Bean and the short man bought from the store. Bean is happy now that he bought the piano.
Outside Bean's flat, the two movers carry the piano which they struggle because it's too heavy. After Bean opens the door, he tells them to come in. Wicket watches from the window, happy that she can listen again to Bean playing the piano. Inside Bean's room, the two movers place his piano on the floor. However, Bean tells them to put it to the left. Bean also doesn't like it so he tells them to put the piano in front of him, to which they do so albeit annoyed. Bean still doesn't like it so he tells them to move it to the right. This time, Bean likes its current location even though it was the same spot as the first time. When the two movers realize this, they angrily storm out of Bean's room. Bean tests out his new piano, only to realize that it's still out of tune. He then remembers he put Teddy to the piano strings so the short man won't buy the piano. Bean does the same song as earlier and this time it's in tune. Bean opens the book and plays Beethoven's symphony, but he gets it wrong. Annoyed, he does it again, but he gets it wrong again. Bean keeps getting the song wrong until he finally loses control of his rage and repeatedly bangs the keys on the piano. Wicket hears Bean repeatedly banging the keys on the piano, so she goes up to confront him. Bean repeatedly bangs the chair on the floor in far more rage than before, but stops when he hears Wicket coming up. When Wicket opens the door, Bean plays the piano, which she likes. After Wicket leaves, Bean starts playing an audience applauding in his radio, annoying her and making her come back so he turns it off. Wicket slams the door, making Beethoven's portrait move slightly upwards.
Bean retries the song but he still gets it wrong, angering him again. So he gets a phone book and calls the piano instructor. The piano instructor rings the doorbell, shocking Bean when he realizes the piano instructor is the same short man he annoyed. He lets the piano instructor enter his room and plays the song for him but he gets the last tune wrong. The piano instructor opens his small piano and plays the song. Bean retries the song but he still gets it wrong; time moves quickly and Bean still can't get the hang of it. Bean finally gives up when he still gets it wrong 3 times cause he cannot focus 3 times, thus upsetting the piano instructor and making Bean whine. However, the piano instructor gets an idea. Outside, he is in his truck and he and Bean shake hands as the truck drives off; Bean happily returns home. Having the shadow of Beethoven, Bean plays the symphony and Wicket dances to the song. It is revealed that the instructor recorded Beethoven's symphony for Bean, since the two exchange instruments. The song ends and Bean presses a button and an applauding audience plays. Bean presses another button, changing the applause to an even more enthusiastic applause. Bean then pulls a string, which pulls a stick attached to it, making an iron fall to the pedal of the trash can, opening its lid and flinging the flowers to Bean. Wicket enters Bean's room and Bean gives her the flowers. They both celebrate Bean's victory and success and honor Beethoven.
