Goldfish is the 21st episode (33rd on ITVX) of Season 1 of Mr. Bean: The Animated Series. It is the 7th episode in Summer 2003 block. It originally aired over ITV on June 28, 2003.
This episode has two official uploads on YouTube, both on official channel and Mr. Bean World channel. Both uploads masses of 48.8 million views in total with the first upload being the highest viewed.
Synopsis[]
Mr. Bean befriends and trains a goldfish he rescued from the fountain.
Plot[]
It is stormy outside and Mr. Bean is bored out of his mind. He looks for toys to play with but none of them piques his interest. Bean turns on the TV to see a man on a tightrope over shark-infested waters in one channel and a woman fighting a vampire in another, but neither are entertaining to him. Bean then changes the channel to a man training a dolphin to balance a ball on its snout, catch a fish, jump through a hoop and give him a kiss. This finally piques Bean's interest, and he decides to copy the show.
He fills his bathtub with water and empties several cans of sardines into a bucket. He even wears clothes' peg on his nose because the sardines smell bad. Bean puts Teddy in the tub and tells him to jump for the sardine. But Teddy, being an inanimate object, doesn't do anything. Bean apparently doesn't understand that Teddy isn't alive, so he gets annoyed and brings the fish close to Teddy. Unfortunately, Bean loses his balance and falls to the tub. He pulls a sardine out of his ear and sees that Teddy has fallen to the bucket of sardines. Bean cleans Teddy, but the bath was not enough to get rid of the stink, so he goes outside while holding Teddy using a fishing rod.
Bean heads to a laundromat called W.E. Starchit while a woman also goes inside but leaves immediately because Teddy smells bad. Bean gives Teddy and the clothes peg to the laundry man to cover his nose with. Bean goes home and Scrapper tries to eat the goldfish.
Back home, Bean is eating alone with only a photo of Teddy because Teddy is in the laundromat. Bean has already finished his meal and tries to eat Teddy's meal but decides against it. Later, Bean is ready for bed and puts the photo of Teddy beside him on the bed and goes to sleep.
Hours later, Bean is awakened by Scrapper's loud snarling. He looks out the window and sees Scrapper trying to eat the goldfish. Bean tries to save the goldfish but the door outside is locked. He searches for the key, but cannot find it. Fortunately, he uses a colander, a stock pot, and some rope to save the fish from Scrapper. Bean puts the fish to a glass of water but it's only small enough fit the goldfish's head in. After finding a fishbowl to put the fish in and filling it with water, he sees that the fish is not in the glass and then sees it in the flower vase. When Bean sees how good the fish jumps from the vase to the fishbowl, he decides to play with it just like the dolphin in the TV. The goldfish jumps to catch the sardine. Next, he ties the fish to a wind-up toy train as it does water skiing stunts as the train tows it along the bathtub. Next, he uses a Loopy Loop cookie for the goldfish to jump through. He then puts a ping pong ball on the water which the fish successfully catches. Then he plays ping pong with the fish who is surprisingly good at it. At bed, he throws the photo of Teddy on the floor and puts the goldfish beside him.
At W.E. Starchit, the laundry man places Teddy in the washing machine.
The next day, Scrapper is back at the pond searching for another fish but there's nothing there. He hears thumping coming from Bean's room. Bean wakes up and sees the goldfish gone from its bowl. While Bean searches for it, he sees it back in the vase jumping to the window because it lives in the pond outside. Later, Bean and the goldfish relax outside when Scrapper tries to eat the goldfish, so Bean shoos him away. Bean decides to go to the beach away from Scrapper. The pebbles the Mini drives over causes the water in the bowl to spill out, so Bean uses water from his water bottle to refill it. At the beach, while the goldfish swims in the ocean, Bean has the fish tied to the rope that is attached to his toe. While goldfish is swimming, a swordfish eats it. When Bean sees the fish no longer jumping, he suddenly gets dragged to the sea, hitting a shark's fin in the process. The shark spots Bean and tries to eat him but misses. A fisherman has reeled the swordfish and Bean lands in the pile of stinky fish. The fisherman hangs the swordfish just as Bean emerges from the pile of herring. The goldfish falls down from the swordfish's mouth, alive and well, to Bean's relief. But now Bean smells bad because he is in a pile of stinky herring.
At W.E. Starchit, the goldfish is back in its fishbowl, Teddy is now clean, and Bean is inside the washing machine so this time he'll get cleaned. As the washing machine is filled with water and detergent, Bean joyfully spins around.

- The ending scene where Bean was inside the washing machine is a reference to the first act of the live-action episode Tee Off, Mr. Bean.
