Coconut Shy is the 4th episode of Series 2 and 56th episode overall of Mr. Bean: The Animated Series. It originally aired over CITV on 17 February 2015.

This episode has two official uploads on YouTube, both on official channel and Mr. Bean World channel. Both uploads masses of 1.3 million views in total with the first upload being the highest viewed.

Mr. Bean has to buy a cup for Teddy, but he has no money. He goes to the funfair where he can win a free female teddy bear with a £10 note on it. Bean plays a coconut shy but, after failing to win, he sneaks inside and finds it was a cheat — the coconut is glued to the tripod. Thus, the angry owner pursues Bean around the funfair — via a horror ride, a roller coaster, a candy floss stall, and finally a helter skelter, which ends with the owner being thrown and landing in his own kiosk. Bean obtains the female teddy bear and buys two cups for Teddy and the female Teddy.

Plot

Mr. Bean is pouring tea into a cup until he notices he didn't bring one for Teddy so he looks for one everywhere.

Mr. Bean is about to drink tea with Teddy so he pours tea to his cup but then he realizes Teddy doesn't have one. So he goes to the kitchen to look for a teacup for Teddy but there's no cups in the pantry, in the drawer, under the sink, and even in the fridge. When he realises he has no more teacups, he rides to buy one in the Porse & Lane Mugs store.

Inside the store, he has trouble choosing from the two mugs he's holding, to the annoyance of the cashier and the people waiting in the queue behind him. The man behind Mr. Bean taps him and tells him to hurry up but he won't listen to him and tells the man to wait patiently. Then, he finally chooses one cup that has a teddy on it and pays the cashier £1. The cashier tells Bean it's not enough and points at the mugs that have a £5 tag attached to them. Shocked, Bean checks his wallet but he has no more money and a tiny moth comes out of it. The moth flies and Bean looks at it and then sees a poster on one of the shop's windows for a fun fair and the prize is a female teddy bear with some £10 banknotes attached to it.

There's no more parking spaces left in the car park until Bean notices a sign saying, as he read it "Cars", unbeknownst that it's actually a sign leading to Bumper Cars, not a car park.

So in the evening, he goes to the funfair so he can win the prize he is looking for. He gets annoyed when he sees there are no parking spaces inside the fair; he finds a parking space but a car parks there first; then, he finds another parking space but another car parks there; then he finds two parking spaces but both get taken instantly; he finds a fifth parking space but like earlier another car parks there first. Then, he fortunately notices a sign that says "Cars" so he presumes he can park there.

After going through the area with Bumper Cars and still not finding a place to park at, Bean decides to park on... the merry-go-round, which interests the children nearby and they all want to go inside Bean's Mini.

Soon, the balloon salesman that was standing there leaves, revealing that the sign actually says "Bumper Cars". He thins he is going to find an actual parking spot and drives to the bumper cars area, thinking that's a parking lot. Bean then finds a parking space to park his Mini to; the screen zooms out to reveal that he parked his Mini in a merry-go-round. There's also some children that immediately want to enter Bean's car, noticing it.

After walking for a bit on the funfair, Bean finally spots an attraction in which when you win you can win real money. So he gives it a try.

Whilst Mr. Bean is walking in the fair, he spots a roller coaster and a horror ride. Then he finds a coconut shy stall whose reward is the female teddy bear with a £10 note. The man in front of Bean throws the ball to the coconut twice, but misses. When he throws the ball for the third time, he hits the coconut but it stays in place. Furious, the man leaves. It's now Mr. Bean's turn and he tells the people behind him to go back and he does a warm-up to prepare for the game. When Bean gets the balls, he takes one and measures the distance to make sure he can hit the coconut. He throws the ball and a thud is heard so he thinks he hit the coconut. The four people then shake their head and tell Bean to look behind. Bean realises the coconut didn't fall, annoying him. He throws the second ball and it hits the coconut but it doesn't fall again. So he goes even further and runs towards the stall to throw the final ball that hits the coconut but just as earlier, it doesn't fall. He complains because the three balls hit the coconut so it should've fallen down; the owner of the coconut shy chuckles maliciously and calls the next player.

The elderly lady throws the ball and it hits the coconut but it still doesn't fall down. Mr. Bean believes that the owner may be cheating so he sneaks inside the tent. Soon, he realises the coconut is glued or screwed to the tripod after he touches the coconut and it doesn't fall anyway. Realising it's stuck, Bean tells the old lady to stop playing the game and shows that the coconut is indeed stuck.

To run away from the guy, Mr. Bean entered the Spooky Tunnel Ride. Whilst he is not scared of what's happening during the ride, towards the end of it he screams when he sees the coconut shy owner scaring him and runs.

The owner, angry that Mr. Bean exposed him, pursues him. He nearly catches Teddy but Bean fortunately gets him before the owner snatches him. First, Mr. Bean runs to the spooky tunnel ride. Luckily, the ride begun before the guy could catch up on him. Inside the ride, Mr. Bean is shocked to see himself as a skeleton. Then, he sees a skeleton, a ghost, bats and a werewolf, that are obviously just decorations. Then, the ride brings him to the next room. A coffin opens as a vampire comes out of it and a Frankenstein's monster comes out from a door but he is unbothered by that. Then, the coconut shy owner says "Boo!" to him, scaring him when he realised he got inside from the other side. Mr. Bean runs out quickly from the spooky ride and four children want to ride it after thinking that the ride scared Bean; the excited kids block the guy from pursuing Bean.

Then, Mr. Bean decided to run to the Roller Coaster ride.

Next, Bean decides to ride a roller coaster and the guy goes to the same cart him, which is number 6. Then, he quickly goes to the cart with number 5 and the safety bars go down, preventing the owner from reaching Bean. Bean laughs at the owner but soon the roller coaster starts running and he didn't even sat down, he is just standing and when the roller coaster is upside down in the circle, he falls to the back of the sixth cart, with the coconut shy owner in it. When the roller coaster stops, Mr. Bean lands in front of the guy but he successfully escapes while the guy is still stuck. The guy still searches for Mr. Bean near the duck fishing game and then he emerges from the water and spits it to the guy's face.

Bean now runs to the Helter Skelter, and the guy runs behind him.

Then, Bean runs to the candy floss stall and uses it to disguise himself by putting the candy floss on his hair to make him look like a woman. The guy. actually thinks that he is a woman until Mr. Bean tastes a bit of the candy floss and says "Nice!" in his normal voice, accidentally exposing himself to the guy. The coconut shy owner soon chases Bean when he runs to the helter skelter. They both run upstairs and then they slide down using bags to slide from it. While sliding, the candy floss comes off Mr. Bean's head and fully covers the guy's face.

The coconut shy owner then flew and ended up crashing on his own stall. Karma has returned to him after scamming so many people.

When Bean reaches the ground, he overturns a sign next to the helter skelter and puts it at the end of the slide, making the owner fly and then land on his own stall, destroying it. The tripod from the game falls on the guy's head, hitting it. Soon, Mr. Bean reaches the stall and takes the female teddy bear with the £10 notes attached to it. The owner of the stall is dizzy after the tripod fell on his head.

Having enough money, Bean decides to buy the cups with both Teddy and Lottie on it.

Next day, Mr. Bean returns to Porse & Lane Mugs store where the cashier is once again annoyed because Bean is still trying to decide which cup he will buy. He finally decides to buy both cups and pays the cashier the £10 he got earlier. Back at home, he is pouring tea for himself, the female teddy bear, and Teddy. The female Teddy then slides to Teddy, looking like she's leaning against him.

Trivia

• This episode might have been inspired from the live-action series' episode, "Mind the Baby, Mr. Bean".
• This is the first appearance of plush bears looking like Irma's Lottie without Irma in it.
• This is the first ever episode written by Ciaran Murtagh and Andrew Jones. They would later write some of Season 2 episodes and most of Season 3 and Season 4 episodes.
• Mr. Bean would later return to the same Funfair seen in this episode in the episode "The Photograph", with the difference that in this episode, he visited it during evening and in "The Photograph", he visits it during afternoon/late morning.
• The doll the little girl was holding in the Porse & Lane Mugs is very similar to one Susan owns except Susan's is wearing a blue dress and has a blue bow whilst her doll wears a green dress and has a green bow. Both dolls have blonde hair though.
• A moth flying out of Mr. Bean's wallet when it's empty is a running gag in the series.
• The part of the episode in which Mr. Bean was in the Fun Fair was previously supposed to be set in the day, not evening, as revealed in the storyboard (there's clouds seen in the sky, suggesting it's day, not night).
• The couple seen sitting on the bench and later riding the roller coaster later reappeared as a cameo in various episodes, like "The Robot" or "Wedding Day".
