Birthday Bear is the 5th episode of Season 1 of the Animated Series.
Synopsis
Mr Bean forgets his teddy's Birthday - then gives him a treat to remember.
Plot
It's Teddy's birthday. Irma Gobb, Mr. Bean's girlfriend, goes up the stairs while holding a cake. When she makes it to the door she knocks but Bean is fast asleep so he does not answer it. Irma finally loses her patience and puts the envelope inside Bean's room and leaves her bag, then she leaves with the cake. It's 9am and the alarm clock rings, causing hot water to hit Bean's foot. He then wakes up, holding his foot as it got burnt by the hot water. After turning off the alarm clock and leaving Teddy to sleep some more, Bean notices the letter Irma left for him. He finds the bag outside and opens it, revealing party supplies inside. Bean opens the letter, revealing a birthday card for Teddy. He gets shocked upon realizing that he forgot Teddy's birthday. Bean erases Irma's name in the card and replaces it with his own name so he can lie to Teddy that the birthday card came from him. Later, Bean shows Teddy that his room is filled with party supplies, ready for the party.
When Bean leaves his apartment, he sees a fireworks display set at 9pm. Bean then parks his Mini in lot filled with cars for sale. He puts the Sold sign on his Mini to fool the traffic warden into thinking he had just bought the Mini. Bean enters a toy store just as he is greeted by the cashier. He asks the cashier to set up train on the floor. Bean, bored, sneaks upstairs when he sees that there are more toys there and the cashier is busy setting up the toy train on the floor. Upstairs, Bean sees a large assortment of toys and starts building his toy city. The robot steps on the dolls, breaking them. Bean is a horseman, Teddy is on a tank, and they have got an army of green soldiers. Bean then blows the horn just as the cashier keeps the toy trains and goes upstairs, annoyed. Bean throws the basketball into the seesaw, causing a block to hit the robot, to no effect, annoying him. He then turns on the toy tank and fires the toy dart gun on the robot which the dart just bounces off. Next, Bean fires the larger dart to the robot but it's still moving, annoying him again. Left with no other choice, he readies the toy rocket launcher and aims it at the robot. The cashier arrives upstairs, just as Bean fires the rocket launcher, hitting the shelf instead. The cashier is finally fed up with Bean's antics as building blocks and a bucket land on his head, angering him further. Furious, the cashier, knocks the Viking helmet off of Bean's head and lets him pick between the two train boxes. Teddy instead lets Bean buy a red balloon worth 2 pence.
After the toy store, he then goes to a fast food restaurant called Rumps. Inside he looks at the menu but he doesn't like any of the foods listed. Instead he buys ketchup worth 2 pence. The cook gives a birthday cake for a boy who unsuccessfully blows out the candle but he bites it anyway. Bean realizes he's late for Teddy's party so he runs out of the restaurant and calls Irma. At night, the party is ready with the guests being a toy soldier and a yellow bobblehead dog. Bean creates a contraption using his hot water alarm clock, a hose, and a floor lamp to open windows by 9 p.m. for the fireworks display Irma then arrives, still annoyed at Bean for forgetting Teddy's birthday and letting her wait too long. Both Bean and Irma blow out the candle and they celebrate while holding Teddy and Lottie respectively. Irma lets Lottie kiss Teddy but Bean, annoyed, lets Teddy slap Lottie instead. Angry, Irma slaps Teddy in retaliation. Then they both calm down and eat the birthday cake. Later, the toys are on the couch as Bean and Irma cut off a white and pink newspaper respectively, in a shape of fish. The race begins in which Irma's paper fish takes the lead. But Bean decides to cheat by dragging Irma's paper fish under the couch. Bean then bounces his paper fish to the finish line, making him win the race, albeit his victory is undeserved because he cheated. Bean celebrates his "victory" but Irma is angry because of Mr. Bean's unfair play. Bean decides to cheer her up by blowing the party horn but she remains angry. Fortunately for Bean, it's almost 9 p.m. so he lets the still-angry Irma sit on the couch and faces it to the window. The clock strikes the hour and his contraption opens the window curtains, revealing the fireworks display. Irma finally feels better then she kisses Bean who wipes it off.
