Bean Phone is the 21st episode of Season 4 and 73rd episode overall of Mr. Bean: The Animated Series.
Synopsis
Mr. Bean wants a smartphone, but cannot afford to buy one. However, he makes a smartphone-like object which is a large rucksack with smartphone "applications".
Plot
The episode starts with Bean walking on the park. The man across the pond proposes to his girlfriend. Bean, who happens to walk by, feels embarrassed so he lets Teddy look at a duck. The boyfriend gives Bean his phone, asking him if he can take a photo of them. Bean accepts but he doesn't know how to use a phone. The boyfriend taps the camera and the phone shows the camera. Bean tests the phone by taking a photo of himself and he finally understands how to use it. So Bean takes a picture of the couple and later Teddy. Bean is amazed with the phone after he takes many photos of Teddy and the alarm goes off; the boyfriend shuts it. The girlfriend then goes back to work and she kisses her boyfriend before leaving. Bean then plays a video game in the boyfriend's phone; the boyfriend then switches to music and Bean dances to the music. Bean then resumes playing the video game. The boyfriend wants his phone back but Bean is playing the game so he snatches it back from Bean. Bean tells the boyfriend he wants a smartphone because he's fascinated by it. He agrees and shows Bean the map in the phone, showing where Bean can buy a phone. The boyfriend then opens the weather app that tells him it's going to rain. He tells Bean to hurry up but Bean disagrees, thinking that it won't rain. Bean and the boyfriend start running because it's now raining.
Bean and the boyfriend arrive at the store named Smart's Phones. Bean tests out a flat tablet, shocking him when it seemingly vanishes when he rotates it. Bean then sees a tiny phone underneath a microscope; he grabs it with a tweezers but a loud music plays in the phone when Bean grabs it, causing Bean to release it; he turns it off and on. The employee turns the music off and puts it back to its original place. The boyfriend shows the employee Bean wants a phone like his. The employee shows Bean a shelf where the phones are, and Bean is shocked at the high prices. Realizing he can't afford the phone, Bean sadly leaves. In Bean's room, Bean sits on his chair sad because he can't buy the phone. So Bean decides to make a makeshift smartphone when he sees various objects on his fireplace that are used in the apps. Bean tapes a camera to a phone and takes a photo of Teddy. Then Bean puts his phone and various items in his large backpack; he gets stuck on his way out and he falls down the stairs when he forces his way out. Bean sees a sleeping Scrapper so he takes a photo of him but he decides to pull an alert tag that causes a horn to come out. Bean honks the horn and pictures Scrapper when he jumps in shock. Annoyed, Scrapper walks outside to sleep again. Bean looks at his alarm clock and he departs.
Back at the park, the couple are eating sandwiches. Bean arrives and shows them his makeshift phone which are all kept in his large backpack which he introduces as the Bean Phone. Bean then takes a photo of the confused couple. He then shows the phone, the camera, and the alarm clock. The boyfriend asks Bean if his Bean Phone has a music. Bean pulls a music tag and a radio playing music comes out. The boyfriend then asks Bean if the Bean Phone has the weather. Bean pulls the weather tag and an umbrella comes out. Then the boyfriend asks Bean if the Bean Phone has games. Bean pulls a rocket tag and a pingpong set comes out; the couple plays with them. So the boyfriend asks Bean if they can have a proper challenge; he shows Bean London Bridge and the first one to arrive there using their phone wins £5. The girlfriend will be the judge. Bean accepts the challenge and the race begins. Bean keeps his pingpong set back to his backpack and the boyfriend uses his map to find the way to London Bridge. Bean pulls the map tag and the map of London comes out. He draws the path from the park to London Bridge. The boyfriend is in the city using the map to reach the London Bridge and he sees in the weather app that it's going to rain so he goes to the subway. Bean is still in the park and the map gets stuck in his face. The boyfriend is on the escalator descending to the subway train. Bean is still in the park and the map is now ruined so he pulls the weather tag and the umbrella comes out again. The boyfriend is enjoying music inside the train. Bean arrives at the subway entrance just as the train going to Tower Bridge station stops because there will be delays, to the boyfriend's dismay. And to his annoyance, there's no reception. Bean looks at his alarm clock and he removes the umbrella just as he gets blown by the wind and he closes the umbrella. Bean pulls another tag and a skateboard comes out; he opens the umbrella again and he gets blown by the wind. The boyfriend is still stuck in the train with no reception. Bean passes by the bus stop as he's still being blown by the wind, nearly hitting three people and two mothers holding their prams. Bean flies through the plank leading to a dumpster and he lands back to the ground. The boyfriend is now losing his patience at the delay while Bean is getting close to Tower Bridge; he jumps over a dog while its owner buys ice cream. Bean stops skating just as the boyfriend exits the subway. Bean notices the girlfriend so he opens his umbrella again and he skates through various people. The boyfriend sees Bean and he runs to the Tower Bridge but he trips on a bin and falls to the river because he's not looking where he's going. Bean is approaching the goal but he's having second thoughts because the boyfriend is drowning. So Bean decides to save the boyfriend and jumps to the river; while descending Bean pulls the emergency tag and a parachute comes out, allowing Bean to descend slowly. Bean then pulls another emergency tag and a rubber boat comes out. He saves the boyfriend but his phone falls to the river, where it breaks and sinks, to Bean's dismay. But the boyfriend doesn't mind and gives Bean the £5 reward.

- This is the third time Mr. Bean takes a selfie, the first was in the live-action episode, "Mr. Bean Goes to Town", second in the animated episode "In The Wild" from Season 1.
