Artful Bean is the 5th episode of Season 1 of the Animated Series.
Synopsis[]
Mr Bean gets a real bug for painting. Then several bugs… and flies and slugs and mice.
Plot[]
Mr. Bean is walking and he sees trash on the ground so he throws it away. Then he sees a pink paper with hearts what sticks on his hand and arm; after a brief struggle he discards it. He then steps on a can but he doesn't notice it until he looks down so he throws it away. Then Bean sees a pile of cans stuck together; a shoe, a pan, and an umbrella are stuck on it as well. So he throws it away but a painter stops him and takes the pile back. The painter pains the pile on his easel. Bean looks at a yellow abstract painting that costs £30. Bean then goes to the road to check the painting, not noticing an orange car that avoids hitting him. Bean pulls out Teddy to let him check the painting. The Reliant stops in front of Bean and honks but Bean won't move out of the way. Bean cleans the road as the Reliant honks some more. Bean then moves out of the way and lets the Reliant pass. Bean then looks at a painting of a person with a sharp nose. A woman enters and Bean mocks the painting's sharp nose to which she shows Bean her sharp nose, shocking him. Bean then sees a nude painting, embarrassing him so he gets the pink paper from the trash can to stick it on her butt, covering it. Bean then looks at a painting of a windmill and it costs £100, shocking him because of its high price. The woman, however, buys it so Bean has an idea. At home, Bean decides to paint but all his paint cans are empty. So Bean discards the empty paint cans and uses mustard, ketchup, blended cabbage, blue cheese mold as paint. When he's done, Bean sprays the area with fresh scent. Bean tries to paint but can't think of anything, so he goes outside to look for one to paint. Along the way, he encounters the Reliant again so he accelerates his Mini, causing the Reliant to fall to the river. Bean finds a windmill to paint a picture of.
When he prepares an easel and observes the position of the windmill, two flies approach, which seems to like the food Mr. Bean uses as paints. Bean uses the ketchup but a snail suddenly appears on his brush, eating the ketchup so he swats it away. Bean draws the propellers of the windmill but he sees the snail climb the easel so he swats it away using his paintbrush. Bean then draws the grass and mixes the ketchup and the cheese mold, turning the cheese mold purple. After swatting a fly, he uses the nearby blueberries that he can use as the color blue. When Bean returns to the easel, he sees three mice eating the ketchup so he shoos them away. When Bean paints the body of the windmill it turns to the right. Even though Bean is finished with his painting, he attaches a rope that connects the windmill and the rear pumper of his Mini. Bean drives his Mini so he can turn it back to front view; a man is rolling a barrel to the windmill but he falls to the pond because Bean turns the windmill back to front view, making the barrel roll to the road, causing the Reliant to crash while trying to avoid it. Now that the windmill's in front view again, Bean returns to the easel only to see a cow licking his painting so he shoos her away. Bean sees a huge swarm of flies trying to taste the paint so he shoos them only for them to come back immediately. So, Bean draws a cake to remove the flies from his windmill painting. With the animals no longer bothering him, Bean retouches his painting. Back at the art gallery, Bean sells the painting for £5. When Bean shoos a fly, the same sharp-nosed woman examines the painting and buys it. Suddenly, flies swarm her, wanting to taste Bean's painting. She runs away and throws the painting to the ground, forgetting her money which Bean tries to remind her but she's already gone. But he gets an idea. Next a man buys his painting and as expected, the flies swarm him so he throws the painting back, and Bean is happy because he gets to keep their money. Later, Bean is counting his money when a beautiful woman buys it when as expected, the flies swarm her and she throws back the painting. Bean continues counting the money as a man walking his dog passes by.

Trivia[]
- This is the first time we could see the interior of the Reliant Regal Supervan and its driver's hands.
- The flies that went after the painting from food and Bean attempts to shoo them was inspired by The Trouble with Mr. Bean where Bean abruptly abandons his picnic moment due to a swarm of bees going after his Cherry Bakewell.
